CHRISTIAN WORSHIP 8:30 A.M.

EXPERIENCING THE CHURCH’S FAITH

Piano Meditations

Lighting the Candles

Organ Prelude Prelude and Fugue in A minor - Bach

GUM Bells Morning Has Broken

Opening Litany

Leader: Alleluia! Praise be to God! Christ has risen indeed.

People: We bring our joyful alleluias to this place today!

Leader: The tomb is empty, and new life hovers in this dawn.

People: We praise God for the mystery and the excitement of new life

present in this day!

Invocation (In Unison)

You are cause for rejoicing, O God, and the source of our gladness. You know what afflicts us; you can sense our distress. You remove whatever net will ensnare us; you give our feet firm places to stand. In Christ you have brought us deliverance. For all your mercies we praise your name and worship you now as our refuge and strength. Amen.

Signing of Attendance Sheets (Clipboards that are being passed.)

Opening Hymn #139 Praise to the Lord

EXPRESSING THE CONDITION OF OUR FAITH

Call to Confession

Leader: Like Thomas, we keep asking, "How can we know the way to God?" This has become our excuse for doing what we desire to do. Jesus came to show us God’s love and God’s way. When we follow our own wicked devices we inherit the violence and death we see around us. But there is another way. We already know it. Let us confess our sin.

People: Death-defying Savior, we approach you in awe and with repentance in our hearts. We know that you came to give us life and went through death and hell to ensure our salvation. Forgive us our sin. Help us to embrace the gift of pardon that you offer so freely. We are like newborn infants, and we long for your pure and spiritual milk, which causes us to grow into salvation. We have experienced rejection by others, yet we recognize how precious we are in your sight. Help us to be a holy priesthood, a spiritual sacrifice, acceptable through Jesus Christ.

Words of Assurance

Leader: We are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s own people. Once we were not a people, but now we are God’s people. Once we had not received mercy, but now we have received mercy from the hand of God. We can walk in the newness of life! This is good news! Amen.

Responsive Reading Psalm 31:1-5, 15-16

Leader: Forget the stocks and bonds. Don’t even trust the annuities. Accumulating investment portfolios and property will not provide the security they promote. Our only hope is in God!

People: Our expectancy is of God, maker of heaven and earth. In this God we trust.

Leader: Hear our petitions for assistance. Dispatch help for our immediate situations. Rescue us from these present dangers. You have proven yourself faithful and, God, we anticipate your interventions again.

People: We are your people. We have been broken, disposed of, and rejected. Yet, we have confidence that you will guide us because we carry your name. For the sake of your honor, send liberation.

Leader: Nets, traps, and hidden plots are a way of life for us. We know that the prospect of lies, tricks, and false smiles hide behind our encounters with those who don’t know our God.

People: We can fully engage life because we have the blessed assurance that a mighty God has our back!

Leader: The word in the hood is that God is yet in the house!

People: Deliverance is a large component of our history. We know the script, although sometimes we forget our part as we face our enemies and persecutors.

Leader: We are the stones that builders have rejected! We are a repeat of the Christ event. For Christ has become the very head of the corner. Our position in God is secure.

People: The Steadfast God goes before us. We will walk in the light of love.
