MID-WEEK LETTER from Grace United Methodist Church

LAST WEEK:

The big news of the week is that we have wrapped up another successful season of corn sales! I do not yet have final numbers- I'm sure that all those in "management" positions slept-in this morning, and it was well-deserved.

I do know that people made special trips to Urbana from Rantoul, Mahomet, and St. Joe just to buy our corn. One gentleman claimed to have come all the way from Hawaii (his license plates verified that), but we suspect in that case, the corn was secondary.

Our corn was carried off to Florida, California, Colorado, and Wisconsin.

It was served to people from China, India, England, Canada, and South Africa.

And the proceeds from the corn sales will also reach out around the area, the U.S., and internationally, as we gift many mission undertakings with the monetary fruits of our labor.

We thank God for the rich blessings bestowed upon us all.

THE CALENDAR: (Please note especially items marked with an asterisk).

Sunday, August 5: * Weather permitting, both worship services will be held outdoors under the VBS tent.

* Church-wide potluck luncheon at noon. The main dish (BBQ!), drinks, and table service will be provided. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share.

(Food should be left in the fellowship hall prior to the worship service. We'll bring it out when it's time to eat.)

Grace Years worship service at Parkview in Savoy at 2:00.

Grace Years worship service at Florida House at 4:00.

* VBS begins! 5:30 to 8:00.

Monday, August 6: * VBS, 5:30 to 8:00.

Tuesday, August 7: * VBS, 5:30 to 8:00.

* QUILTERS WILL NOT MEET TONIGHT, DUE TO VBS.

XYZ reservations must be made today- call the Hackls. (See information for "Thursday" below.)

Wednesday, Aug. 8: Men's Breakfast Group will meet at 6:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

Grace Years ministry team meeting at 9:30 a.m.

Grace Years worship service at Canterbury at 3:00.

* VBS, 5:30 to 8:00.

Life Song rehearsal at 6:30 at the Aters' home.

Thursday, Aug. 9: XYZs will leave from the church at 9:30 a.m. for a "mystery trip" tour, with lunch at Rich's afterward.

* Final night for VBS, 5:30 to 8:00.

* NO J.O.Y. SHARING GROUP TONIGHT, DUE TO VBS.
