MID-WEEK LETTER from Grace United Methodist Church July 5, 2007 Editor: Linda Entwistle LAST WEEK: Four youth and three adults from Grace went "down the road a piece" to participate in a mission project. Scarlette Lee, Alex and Ian Ferguson, Eli Entwistle, Anne Ferguson, Ron Weidner, and Larry Stapleton roofed a house in the community of Longview. The obvious side of a mission activity is supplying funding and labor to help someone less fortunate live a better life physically- a solid roof over their head, structural adjustments to accommodate a handicap, etc. But its the flip side of a mission activity that is really our purpose- improving someone's life spiritually. And that applies to both the crew we send out and the person we assist. Many of you had an opportunity to hear the youth talk about their experience in church last Sunday. We didn't hear just about the new roof, but about the homeowner, as well. They talked about their interaction with him and how the quality of that changed and blossomed through the course of the week. The gentleman was known to be somewhat of a hermit, but he joined the work crew each day for devotionals, and by the end of the week was actively sharing his own thoughts. The crew thanks the entire congregation for their support. Major funding for the mission trip comes from the Men's Pancake Breakfast- and most of you either worked or ate in support of that effort. ********** FOOD PANTRY NEEDS: cereal, canned peas, juices ********** FINANCIAL UPDATE: To date, we have had: Income of $115,350 Expenses of $111,639 ********** THE CALENDAR: (Please note especially items marked with an asterisk).
