MID-WEEK LETTER from Grace United Methodist Church May 3, 2007 Editor: Linda Entwistle LAST WEEK: Last Saturday, while Lisa Searing was busy with the garage sale, Emma joined me and Kyra for a movie. We walked into the theater just after the lights had gone down. It was so dark, all I could see was the track lighting on the floor and a faint glow from the screen. I stood still, waiting for my eyes to adjust, while Emma was moving forward, pulling on my hand. I asked her to wait, which she did- for as long as a 5 year old can bear to hold still- before saying, "Come on." I explained to her that we couldn't move forward because we couldn't see where we were going. To which she responded, "I can." Well, I know that my eyes are about 45 years older than hers, but they still work pretty well, so that comment baffled me. I stooped down beside her, so we could talk quietly. Lo and behold, from that position, I could see, too! So, in a position to move forward, I couldn't see; and in a position to see, I couldn't move forward. So all I could do was tell Emma, "Okay, you show us where to sit." She took Kyra's hand and led us to our seats. Which reminded me that many of the things we think of as "problems" are essentially just a matter of perspective; "solving" them some- times merely requires looking at them from a different angle. And sometimes, it also requires trusting someone else to lead the way. ********** FOOD PANTRY NEEDS: vegetables, fruits, macaroni and cheese
