MID-WEEK LETTER from Grace United Methodist Church

November 2, 2006 Editor: Linda Entwistle

LAST WEEK:

We had some neat inter-age cooperation going on last week as Grace participated in the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF program.

A few days before the event, the high school youth group went out to nearby neighborhoods and distributed about 200 flyers explaining the program.

On Saturday, about a half dozen elementary-age kids gathered at the church, in costume. Again, members of the high school youth group volunteered to serve as chaperones for the Trick-or-Treating part of the event. Richard King served as the chauffeur (we wanted the kids to cover a fairly broad area, so some of them needed a ride back).

Afterwards, they returned to Grace to enjoy refreshments and games planned by some of the moms.

The kids collected almost $120. That money goes farther than most of us would ever guess. For example, UNICEF indicates that just 5 cents will provide iodized salt for a child for a full year-- preventing potential mental and developmental disabilities. One dollar will immunize a child against polio or measles for life.

Four dollars will provide a wool blanket to someone with no heat...or no home.

In this month of November, when we are celebrating our history of mission work, it seems particularly relevant to celebrate the passing of the torch, so to speak, to the next generation.

We are proud of and thankful to both the children and adults who made a difference through their participation in this event.
