MID-WEEK LETTER from Grace United Methodist Church

October 19, 2006 Editor: Linda Entwistle

LAST WEEK:

The past week has reminded me once again that Grace, at its core, is a mission-driven church. In 18 days, I have sold 57 containers of popcorn, 90% of it to people who do not attend Grace. Most of them say they've been buying it for years, for two reasons: one, it's good popcorn, but the other is that they like the fact that the money all goes toward mission work. These people have by now heard that we grow it, pick it, shuck it (Is that the correct term?

That's what my grandpa used to say.), and package it ourselves, and they admire and appreciate all the man hours that involves-- all to help others.

Also over the past couple of weeks, I've been fielding phone calls from the community asking when the Fall Festival would be (and one who even wanted to know if the garage sale date was set for next spring!). Again, people love finding a good deal that also supports mission work.

During the month of November, we are going to celebrate this heritage through word and song in worship. On Sunday, November 19, Grace will host a special "Homecoming Dinner"-- a gathering of members, families, and friends, past and present-- where we will be introduced to a new and exciting mission project. Save the date!

Specific time and location will be released soon.

We hope that you will all join us as we celebrate our past and look toward our future as the Body of Christ.
