Getting to Know Our Church Family…Robin and Greg Styan

By Karen Knight

Robin and Greg Styan have a wish for Grace’s future, the same wish many of us share: that Grace will grow and be filled with kids and life.  Robin’s children were both baptized and participated in Grace activities.    She and Greg were married at Grace in 1992.

In the early 70’s while visiting churches, Robin chose Grace.  Over the years, she has been involved with much of our music from singing in the Chancel Choir and various ensembles and solos, to currently being part of LifeSong.  A big contribution is her leadership of the Cherub Choir.  About that she says “I’m having a blast.  They keep me young.”  The Cherubs are working on a play to be presented to the congregation in the future.

Robin grew up with music.  Her dad, Rudy Taborn, plays guitar and sings.  In high school, Robin was in a band, recorded commercials and recorded a record.  She says, “The record is an antique and stays hidden in the basement.”  Besides music, Robin likes to exercise.  She runs and is currently preparing for her first 5K race.  She and Greg both enjoy playing tennis.

Greg collects classic cars.  (Note some of the cool cars he drives to church.)  He now has a 1936 Chevrolet which he is restoring.

Many of us remember daughter, Kelli, and son, John, when they were children.  Kelli is married and has a 3 ½ year-old son, Canyon.  Her husband, Chris, is stationed in Germany after serving 8 months in Iraq.

John recently graduated from Parkland in the area of Science.  He is presently a kinesiology major at the University of Illinois.  Future plans for John are to enroll in a Physical Therapy College.

Greg farms the family farm with his brother and 2 nephews.  He also owns his own heating and electrical business.  Robin has worked for the Unit 4 school district since 1989.  She now works at the Mellon Administration Building and trains Unit 4 staff on the district’s student software package.  Both enjoy their work so it is hard to see retirement in their future.

Although they live in Sadorus, Greg and Robin still manage to be involved at church.  Besides her musical contributions, Robin chairs the church council.  Greg and Robin both help out with worship services.
